Hello,

I have the Fujitsu MAN3184MP SCSI hard drive, and lately it's been giving me some problems. I am using it with an Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI card. When I start the computer, the adaptec BIOS says that there is a hardware error, and I am only able to boot from the disk if I move the connector from the Ultra2Wide port to the UltraWide port. Is there anything I might be able to do fix this, or do I have to return it under warranty?

Also, I was playing around with the HD tach utility. While the seek times were lower for the SCSI disk, I noticed that the burst speeds for my IDE disk are much greater, almost double. Is this normal? I thought my SCSI disk would out perform my IDE, at least based on the price!

Thanks!

Your Fujitsu would probably be a bit happier on an Ultra160 card, since it's an Ultra160 drive. Still, don't expect miracles, since it's not one of the latest models... looks like StorageReview's Winbench sustained-transfer rates for the 73Gb version range from 56Mb/sec to 36Mb/sec, and yeah, there are IDE drives whose STRs are higher. Its primary weapons are its low seek times and inherent SCSI efficiency, not its raw transfer rates.
