Fujitsu or Samsung hard drive

rml

Lifer
I have to decide whether to buy a Fujitsu or a Samsung hard drive

They are the same price and I have used both before. They both never give me any problem.

Any suggestions just based on the brand.

The one I am looking at is 40GB 5400rpm ATA100

the decision is based on price only. I have to build a system for someone who don't want to spend extra $10 for Maxtor or WD

I've had no problems with Samsung as well. Also, Samsung might be a great choice because their newer model (I can't remember the name) is one of the quietest drives ever.

[Edit]
I found this conclusion from storagereview.com

<< The V20400's quiet operation cannot be overemphasized. Even when running the seek-intensive IOMeter suite, Samsung's drive was inaudible over the testbed's PC Power & Cooling Silencer power supply when listening from a distance of just one meter. Low idle and seek noises make the V20400 the quietest drive that we've yet reviewed here at SR. As difficult as it seems, Samsung reduced noise levels down a notch below that emitted by its older drive as well as ultra-quiet units from Quantum and Fujitsu. The drive becomes just slightly warm to the touch even after extensive use in our smallish testbed case. >>

I just replaced my WD400 with a Fujitsu, and couldn't be happier. I've never used a Samsung. Didn't even know they made drives.

Get a Maxtor, very cheap and much faster.

But if you insist, either Fujitsu or Samsung will satisfy whoever you need satisfied. They both make good quiet slow drives. 🙂

I have had very poor experiences with all Samsung drives (HD and CD). I would not recommend them. They seem to use very unreliable motors.

Samsungs are very good.

on the other hand i had to replace a Fugitsu 3 times because of bad sectors.🙁

Stay away from Fugitsu if you can.

I had 2 Samsung hd's in raid0 a while back & they worked very nicely & dead silent too.🙂

The ? ?old old? ? Samsung drives (200 ?500MB) were not that good, but I have heard nothing but good things about Samsung HD?s in the last 3 years. I have a 6.4GB Samsung in my Celeron 333 system (2.5 years old) that is still running great.

Check this hardware site out ? Redhill hardware guide ?

<< ? ? Typical modern Samsung drives with the usual Samsung virtues. They were decently quick, very reasonably priced, and had a superb reliability record ? ?

? ? ? The V1020 series is their best effort yet. We sold more 10GB and 20GB V1020s than any other drive in 2000 - quite possibly more than all other drives combined. They have proved incredibly reliable: nothing can last forever, but as we write in February 2001, we have yet to see a single faulty V1020 - not one. This is a record very few other drives have managed, certainly none that we have sold in such volume (though the 1.7GB IBM Deskstar - itself a Drive of the Year winner - and one or two Seagates have come close)?. ?
