Hi folks,

I'm considering a notebook for my normal use at home. I'm getting very used to small stuff nowadays as I'm kinda sick of my 19" monitor {GG} Neway, was wondering if anyone here has owned or owns a Fujitsu notebook. If so, how is the build quality compared to IBM or Dell.

Any feedback is appreciated.

TIA!

Don't own one but I've used one. I'd say the build quality is somewhere between the Dell and IBM. Doesn't feel quite as sturdy as the IBM but it's better than the Dell plastic. Their S series is pretty nice. Not too fond of their other notebooks, although the P series is kind of cool.

I own a P-2040. It's pretty solidly built. It's taken some bumps (i think furthest it fell to ground was ~ 2.5-3 feet) & still works great.

I too own a P-2040 notebook. It's held up to mild abuse for about a year now with nothing but some minor scratches on the plastic. Some of the Dell notebooks we have at work feel kind of flimsy but I would say that IBM's are the most "tank-like" of the 3. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. As long as the build quality is better than Dell laptops, then it's good to go ;) Since you have the 800Mhz TM5800 CPU, how fast is it compared to say a P3 500? If the speed isn't that bad, I'll prolly get a P-2120 with a 933Mhz TM5800 CPU. Unless there are other similar products in the market?

I have a Fujitsu S series that I bought OVER 2 YEARS ago (P3M 700). It's a great notebook. If I was buying a new one today I wouldn't hesitate buying another one. The IBM would be my close second choice.

I haven't had good luck with Dell laptops. Many of my clients have had problems with both the batteries (after 2-3 months the batt won't hold a decent charge), and with cases and hinges breaking. Their performance is good, but they are just too cheaply built for me.

Get the 933Mhz Crusoe. I think the 800Mhz Crusoe is probably slightly slower than a P3 500Mhz but that is completely based on baseless opinion. :)

It's good to know that somehow Fujitsu's notebooks are pretty good... Although nearly noone that I know has one of them since the market is dominated by Dells and Compaqs. I agree with you regarding the build quality of Dell notebooks. I've seen a LOT of broken hinges and cases that really shows the build quality. Have a friend that bought a Compaq notebook about 2 years back and regretted. The build quality was also rather bad..

I would love to see the MVA LCD :) But I will not go back to carry an 8lbs laptop anymore. I used to use Sony GRX570 with the beautiful 16"UXGA. They have the best LCD at the time (still is IMO) with some kind of special coating make the LCD viewable at almost 180 degree and still look very good. But after using it for several months, I cannot bear the weight anymore and I'm quite a big person myself (6'3").

Now, if they can manage to use the technology to produce 14" LCD, I would love to get the IBM T40 in a beautiful MVA or super bright LCD :)

I own a C series for about 2 years and still ticking. Like most conservative buyers I tend to go with a name that's known, but I defaulted to Fujitsu only because they were out of the ones I really wanted. Still looks great, but the paint on the plastic is coming off from long use, espeically noticable around the wrist area, so to that end I would suggest you or anyone in the market for a laptop to get one that's black. No real regrets, so buy one with confidence.
