Looking to buy either the S6231 or S7010... not sure which one yet.

I think I've actually seen the S6231 or S6210 or something in Atlanta's Fry store but at that time, I was just starting to look for a laptop and didn't really know what to look for.

After couple of weeks of looking around and reading reviews, I decided to narrow my choices down to:
Lifebook S series, Dell 700M, and Sony Vaio S260.

I know the three choices above are all different in price and feature but I think I am interested in them because of their portability.

I don't expect that I can afford the Sony S260 unless its price drops some so I've counted it out.

For the Dell 700m, I was awaiting the $750 deal to come around again but I don't think it's coming around any time soon so I've counted that out.

Now for the Fujitsu Lifebooks... can someone with either the S6000s or S7000s comment on these laptop quality?

I am a college student looking to find a laptop to use for email, surfing, wireless, and movie watching purposes.

Thanks

the Dell 700m's keyboard is uncomfortably small.
I highly suggest you try it out before buying one.

Personally, only an hobit can tolerate such a small keyboard

you should read the fujitsu forum here

Here is also a review on the older S6210 Here

basicly. The S6231 has improved ventalation and improve keyboard with crystal view screen.
Fujitsu build quality is second only to IBM but the screen is number one IMO.

The S7010 series has 14.1 screen and a fingerprint senor and a stick. they are about the same price but i like the S6321 better because it is slightly smaller and has all the bugs tweeked out now. like improved keyboard and ventaltion. both are basicly the same now that the S7010 has the crystal view.
on a side note, some of the S7000 dont have S-video out, so if that is important to you then get the S6000 series.

I also like the Dell700M. the screen is very nice expect when you are outside tho. The keys are 10% smaller then normal but i have small hands so it is ok for me.
the battery life sucks! you have to buy the extended battery and it sticks out the back 1inch and does add on to the weight noticeably.

The sony is expensive and for that much money i would rather get a Fujitsu P7000. The sony will give you better gaming proformance and a nice screen. but the fan turns on alot so it is loud and i heard problems with the build quality. like keys falling off and stuff.

I too am a college student looking for a good notebook for school and i picked the Fujitsu for the following reasons. i like to be outside on campus alot and the Dell700m screen is way to reflective to work outside.
The sony is too expensive and i am a quiet freak so i didnt like how the fan was on alot.
I love the sleekness of the S6231. it is thin and light and has a awesome screen to boot. my only problem with the fujitsu is the price. it is still really high.

We've had the S2020 for about a year, and it's a mixed bag. Battery life is under two hours, and the processor isnt really able to play divx movie with clocked down for battery use. They come stock with 256mb, and I didn't find it fast enough, so I upgraded to 768. The backlight is sort of quirky, and the wireless is also. I really would like to recommend this, but there are a few problems which stock me from doing so. On a postive note, the screen is decent, although 1024 res.

I've been interested with the S Series too.

You can find more answers in this forum under "Other Fujitsu Notebooks".

I'll probably get the S6231 within the next month or two.

Still haven't picked which store to pick (either Newegg or P1).

P1's offer is more expensive except they offer a 3 year warranty (which I don't think I'll need). They say that the extra 2 year warranty is valued at $179 so shouldn't they do -$179 if you just want th 1 year warranty? :-D

Anyway, I'll probably be buying from Newegg as they are cheaper and I will be purchasing with AMEX so I'll have 2 years of warranty and not just one.
