My friend swears up and down these things are the holy grail of laptops. I have no idea why, but he sure likes them. Also, he thinks Fujitsu makes the best hard drives in the world. I'm not so sure about that one.

I always hit these laptop threads with a strong reccommendation for an IBM ThinkPad. Although, when I was looking into buying my ThinkPad, I was also seriously considering a Toshiba or a Fujitsu. As I recall, Fujitsu has that little "eraser head" for a mouse, which I personally prefer to a touchpad, so that's a plus in my mind. I have heard good things about Fujitsu though, and I'm pretty sure they are very reliable brand.

EDIT: Oops, I guess that Fujitsu does use a touchpad, sorry. For the record, I still think that a ThinkPad is as good as a laptop gets.

hey rossman it would be E-Series but ne of the notebooks would be cool to know about.

Wow those are slick laptops, you missed a killer deal back in November on Dell laptops.

There are several different configurations of E-Series to choose from, which do you intend on buying?

dont take this as a bump mods but...(looks like a bump, cause i relply to often. lol)

yea the thinkpads are on my list but there is only one problem it cost so freaken much its not funny. for a configuration like the fujitsu its would cost upwards of 3-4 grand (at least to what i know it buy). so yea that would be my # one choice but money is also an issue. Also fujitsu is japanese made so that means good grade quality.

I've got a 435dx - its a 133mmx w/DSTN screen thats about 4 years old. It's been fine with the exception of the battery, it never have much of a batt life so I'm always plugging it in.

Other than that, its all good. :)

<<for a configuration like the fujitsu its would cost upwards of 3-4 grand (at least to what i know it buy).>>

My A21p was about $3,500 configured as follows:

PIII-850
15" UXGA (1600x1200) TFT display
256MB RAM
32GB 5400 RPM HDD (other laptop drives are 4200 RPM)
Modular 8x DVD drive
Integrated Floppy drive
Internal 3Com 56K v.90 modem
Internal 3Com 10/100 Network Adaptor
Trackpoint (major selling point, I hate the touchpads)
ATI Rage Mobility M3 16MB AGP 2x graphics controller (at the time the fastest on the market)
Windows 2000

I would imagine that you should be able to spec out an IBM identical to the Fujitsu for $200-$300 more. IMO the ThinkPads are worth every cent of the price premium they command over other laptops. I like to joke that the ThinkPad is the only laptop that, if someone tries to steal it, you can use to beat the theif to a pulp, and then use the very same laptop to type up the theft report. :)

I have a 2+ year old fujitsu that had battery problems within the 1st year. I dunno if they're better now but the one I got is a POS. Maybe a defect? I dunno.
