Fuji's Super CCD technology?

I'm thinking about getting a FinePix S602 digital camera.. The specs say that their 3.1 mp "super ccd" is equivalent to a standard 6.0 mp ccd - any truth to this at all? Is this exactly the same as blowing up an image in photo shop or is there any truth to these "hexagonal ccds improve image quality" claims.. Now I don't expect the camera to compete with true 6.0mp cameras - but is it offer better quality than a standard 3.1 (I'm looking for a camera in the 3-4mp range)..

The last version of Fuji 3MP/6MP super ccd can't even compare to 4MP G2.
How good is the next version ? who knows.
But no matter how good their guesswork algorithms are, it still can't replace true res ccd.
I think Fuji claim 6MP file size, not res. There will be some suing and smackdown if they truly market the super ccd camera as the fake 6MP.
I personally don't want a camera that guess how the picture will be. I want the real res, not faky one.
Beside, wait for a week (7/29) for Fuji to announce their new camera (S5000) with newest generation of super ccd.
You might want that one instead of S602. I think it will be 3MP/6MP 10X optical with msrp of $499.

I'm with you. If you want a 6mp camera get one. The quality difference is noticable with a real 6mp camera. But it isn't always about mp though.

there're few things that other CCD type can't do that the Fuji CCD can like low noise in general, ultra high ISO for a digicam,

Anyway, the new Fuji S7000 is a true 6MP camera. For $799, it's a steal. At work we just paid $1500 for a Canon D10 body + $500 for a lence

I have a finepix s602 zoom, it's a great camera (but I never use 6mp mode).

For the price right now, it's not a good deal. You're approaching G3 territory with the s602 zoom. When I bought it, it was brand new and I got a killer deal, so it was a good purchase at the time.

The 6X optical zoom is great. It's really easy to switch between settings in the shutter/apature priority modes (some of the other settings require multiple button presses at once that take some getting used to). The macro mode is really good, something like 1-2cm in super macro mode. It takes dual media, which is handy because I've got a bad habit of leaving my big CF card in the reader, so the SM card backs me up.

I've taken a ton of pictures with this camera, if you'd like to see some send me a PM and I'll upload some of the better ones to one of the pic hosting sites when I get home from work tonight at 6. I mostly keep it in 3mp mode, because writing to the CF card is almost as fast as 1mp and they make nice 8x10s.
