What valuable information did that article even have?

If AMD makes a good GPU and sets it at a reasonable price, they might steal some of Nvidia's thunder - well no d'uh!

Summary of Article:
NV did amazing things, but if AMD's stars align - cue Star Wars theme - AMD will make sales!

EDIT:

How the article ends:

The next year might be the long waited year for the return of the AMD Jedi with both Zen and Vega architecture. All they need to do is make sure that Vega and Zen are competitive.

This guy should buy a lottery ticket with such clairvoyant abilities.

Ranting aside, I don't get why this article annoyed me so much. But it did.

I feel like the Indiana Jones theme would be a better fit. Maybe that was what annoyed you.

Stuff like this rubs me the wrong way as well:
We think that a successor of Polaris based RX 480 is on its way too.
At least they don't flat out claim that "an insider told us that ...", but that's just not news worthy. Why did I click on that.

This article was the equivalent of a local news station running stories about puppies and checking your home heater before winter gets here. They basically said
"Hey, AMD will probably release new products next year. If those products are good people will buy them."

I agree. All I got from the article was that Vega is going to be released in 2017, and they obviously read about Polaris refresh on WCCF and threw that in there.

Wouldn't a Polaris refresh be similar to what they did from the 290 to 390? The 390's were better/faster cards then the 290's.

How can you even link that here - it's just a click bait article that says nothing to get fanboys to argue on the comments and hence earn fudzilla more ad revenue. Now you want to post a link to a non article here to encourage another meaningless fact-less argument?

to be fair, if fanboys of any stripe find cause to argue against each other based on that..."article," then we have truly reached a most deplorable state.

lol. You're probably annoyed because you thought, "Oh! Cool, some more info to chew on, finally!" then you read it.

This article is useless. Nvidia is not going to have any trouble from AMD. They have a Pascal refresh lined up for H2 2017. Vega and Polaris refresh will have to face up to improved Pascal on a mature TSMC 16FF+ node. Nvidia has to just bring pricing to competitive levels if and only if AMD has products which can compete with GP102/GP104. Nvidia has the superior brand and mindshare among enthusiasts. So most people will prefer Nvidia over AMD if both have products with similar performance at a given price. AMD has been missing at the high end after R9 290X / R9 290. Fiji was a disappointment against 980 Ti especially given the aftermarket OC models which were 15% faster than ref 980 Ti. I think AMD has probably a chance of 30-35% market share if Vega and Polaris refresh is very competitive against Pascal refresh. If not AMD will go below 20%.

NVIDIA will be able to play any Polaris/Vega SKUs like a fiddle by fully enabling GP102 and cutting down GP102 further, as needed.

Then with Volta in early 2018, the cycle begins all over again.

We don't know how Vega will perform, so it's not wise to say GP102 will "play it like a fiddle". It probably will, though that's not the point, maybe AMD has a gem on their hands!

That said I think by the time they launch HBM2 equipped Vega, Pascal refresh will be here, with further increased clock speeds etc. Vega is looking like a Q2/Q3 2017 product, which is so far away in the grand scheme of things.

Hope that Vega turns out to be competitive against GP102.
Probably Vega would need 6144 1.25GHz to be around that performance

Fury X shows its true performance once it has proper programming in the game code. for example DOOM

Stop reading Mike MaGee and his silly nicknames for everything. I didn't realize he had a new website, last i knew he was doing The Inquirer after leaving The Register.
