See the bolded part? Who do you think he's kidding? Himself? Mainstream parts sell a lot more then the highest-end parts. Margins on the highend is also higher though, but that doesn't make up for the difference in sheer amount of videocards sold in the mainstream segment.

also agreed.
GTX480 SLI is the current performance king... but how many people pay 1000$ for two video cards that require you to use a 1.5KWatt PSU?
Actually you should be paying more, I don't see anyone using that except with water-cooling.

Current rumors size the GF104 in at 324mm^2, just a bit smaller than the 334mm^2 Cypress in the R5800s.

The problem is that when we consider the lack luster performance of the GF100 relative to Cypress, it seems highly unlikely GF104 will be able to touch Cypress and will probably be a tad slower than the GT200s they'll be replacing.

The good news is that nVidia finally made the jump to GDDR5, so that will help make the boards cheaper.

But even then, the cost of producing a Cypress or a GF104 should be roughly the same, which means nVidia and their partners probably still won't be able to compete in terms of price/performance without taking a hit. nVidia really needs another G92. GF104 is a step in the right direction, although I think its still too big for 40nm.

no, what they are going to do is re-release another g92 with identical specs to gts 250...maybe they'll call it gts 450?

The specs and brands could still change, so we caution you to take them with a grain of salt.
I take everything Fudzilla says with a grain of salt. A very big grain of salt.

Well, duh? Is he just stating the obvious or implying it is really as bad as we had hoped it wouldn't be? Until we see AIB's jump over to AMD or GF ramp up earlier than expected, not really much of a big deal on the consumer end.

Has there been a 40nm version of the g80 yet?

I thought the GTS 250 was basically the 40 nm version of the g92 which is the replacement to the g80. I don't think they'll actually go back to the g80 itself since that would be more expensive to produce and uses more power.

gts 250 is 55nm g92. aka 9800 gtx+

they most likely wont do a 40nm version, no point to a dx10 card nowadays. the gt240 is 40nm, and is close enough to a 9600gt to get by.

The GTS 250 isn't 40nm, only the GTS 240/220/215/210/310 cards are. The GTS 250 uses the same chip used in the 9800GTX+/9800GTX/9800GT/8800GT/8800GTS 512/9600GSO/ etc ...
