Was on the highway today doing about 65, eased up a bit going around a turn and then as I apply more gas as it straighten up I realize my sped is still going down a bit. I look down and see that I'm barely managing to maintain about 55, and see that my battery level is sucking down to almost empty. Pull over and notice I've got a wrench and CEL warning on the dash. Turn the car off then back on, let battery charge back up to about half again, and test the gas which seems responsive. No wrench light now. Pull back into traffic, get about 2 miles and experiencing the same thing. So stop again at the next exit ramp and take the street roads back home.
Check the code, a nice 2112, and find out the there are several years worth of vehicles with notoriously bad throttle body assemblies. Yeah for being just over my warranty mileage. First I get the toyota defective 02 sensors (at least they replaced the first one free) and now this. Best part was then spending about 90 minutes to get to talk to a person either of 2 service departments tell me that it doesn't appear to be under any warranty. And to just make the situation that much crappier, initial research seems to indicate that you can only get a new one from the dealer, or if you trust various online second hand sellers.
This is on a 2010 fusion hybrid, didn't have any problems on the secondary roads but was going at or under electric speed mostly anyway. Was pretty freaky to see the electric drive try to maintain 55 when its supposed to shut off just about 45, and damn did the battery drain before my eyes while it did so.
