FTPs and Firewalls

here's the situation, maybe someone can help me with this.

i'm on pacbell DSL, which is PPPoE. i just got in on the SMC Barricade Router deal, but now i've got problems with my FTP through the firewall. the port is 321, and everyone can log into it fine (i enabled it on the Virtual Server setting and set the allowed FTP ip on the router). however the problem is that no one can list anything, no directories, files, anything. entering into passive mode doesn't seem to help either. i haven't changed the permissions on the ftp, i'm assuming there's a setting or something i haven't quite figured out. it seems to be problematic when others on a firewall try to use the FTP. my friend has the exact same problem, but when people non-firewalled login to his ftp they have no problems. most if not all the people who use my ftp is is a firewall, this makes it quite problematic- there's no point to the ftp if no one can use it.

anyone ? help 🙂

there's a setting for nonstandard ftp port (ie, not 21), so maybe you need to throw in 321 in there?

for me, i'm having a problem forwarding the standard port 21.. ppl can connect but not download 🙁 I have to dmz to get it working.

still can't get aim file transfer working either 🙁

doesn't aim use a different port? i think it's 5190, try opening that up to see if it does anything.

you need to open port 20 and 21, if port 20's not open you need to turn on passive mode.

i put 321 in there, they can connect to the FTP fine, they just can't see any files (those on firewalls). got some friends not on a firewall to connect and they can see everything fine, it's just others on firewalls. passive mode, active mode, everything- nothing's working.

ah, need 20 too?? hrmm.. when i used freesco, I just needed 21 and i was good to go.

Anyway, about aim, it says we can specify a port... the thing is, it seems to work for my friend, but not me.

AIM randomly picks ports for file transfers. You won't be able to get it to work consisently. A while back I found a page that listed the most common ports and I opened those up on my barricade and I can transfer stuff about 30% of the time.

As for your FTP. I would suggest maybe a firmware update? I have my FTP server on port 666 and behind my barricade router and it works fine with just enabling the virtual server option.

well, i have it open on the default... it seems to work for one friend, but not another... i wonder if it has anything to do w/ the fact the one that worked is also using @home cable vs the other one who is at VT right now

oh, and i already up'd to 1.92e
