PLEASE HELP!!!!!

( ihave an FTP client 'Smart FTP Client' is that what i need)

I need to put the FTP protocall on it
(in the end it needs to look like this ftp://www.blablabla.com

Registering a domain name just gives you a 'named' address that anyone can type into their web browser/FTP client to access your server. Without a domain name (or a redirection service), the only way to access the server would be by typing in the IP address directly.

If that's not a problem, you can set it up very easily.

You just need a computer running FTP server software (there are some free ones available for Windows, and most Linux/UNIX distributions come with one). The system must either be directly attached to the Internet (or at least not using NAT if you have a router), or you must set up the router's firewall to forward the ports your FTP server will listen on to the computer hosting the server. Then anyone can connect to it by pointing their FTP client at your external IP and the port your server is using.

If that doesn't make sense... post in Networking, or go do some reading.

Edit: If you want to host the site yourself but have an ftp://ftp.xxxxx.com address, set it up like I described and then register the domain so that 'xxxxx.com' points at your IP address. If you need more capacity than you can get from consumer home Internet access, you may want to look at hosting.

got it.....how do i register a domain? (i'll contact my ISP..right track?)

don't worry about purchasing a domain name - use something like no-ip.com

and no you wouldn't contact your isp...

filezilla is a good free server and so is the free version of serv-u

computer power wise you don't need much as you internect connection to your house will more than likely be the bottleneck.
