ftp server and Verizon DSL

Sorry if this has been asked before. I searched for "ftp" and didn't find anything...

I'm moving this weekend. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm leaving OptimumOnline and moving to Verizon DSL. In my current home, I've only got one computer hooked up directly to the cable modem, so running my ftp server has been a breeze (I often move files back and forth from my home and work PC's). Now, I'm moving into a house which will have 4 computers on a wired/wireless network sharing a DSL connection through the Westell Versalink modem/router. My computer will be on a wireless connection. How can I configure my computer and the router so that I can connect to my ftp server from work? Do I have to set up my computer to have the same IP address as the modem, or can I have the router direct any connection requests to the main IP address to my computer via a sub-net address?

Help!

You have to configure your computer with a Static IP on the Router, and then open ports 20-21 for this IP.

You use the External IP to communicate and the Router will use the open ports to get to your computer.

Wouldn't you have to forward the ports on the router in order to access those machines on the lan behind the router?

Open Ports trough Firewall and or Router is an other expression for Port Forwarding.
