FTP Security question

the title is rather an oxymoron, at least with regular ftp. basically regular ftp is very unsecure; passwords can be easily sniffed. so what do most people use to upload files to their websites, or even commercial websites? i think regular ftp is meant more to be for public/anonymous access.

sftp

Haven't touched an ftp client in years (except for anonymous downloading, of course).
