well my problem is that I cannot download files or go to FTP servers; I cannot download files from FTP servers using browsers (and no, no FTP program helps me) :(

where's the problem? I have Norton Internet Security 2003 (should not be the problem; worked fine when I installed this) and Windows XP Home Edition SP1

so when you go to the CLI and try to:

ftp ftp.servername.com

What sort of error do you get?

Well this is quite bad becose the text that I see comes in finnish but I'll try to translate it: "You cannot access this folder. Check the folder name and check if you have rights to enter it"
that's comes in IE
in Opera comes Network Problem

finnish, eh?

The problem probably is your firewall. FTP is a old protocol and does some weird things that aren't common with other protocols.

The best way to determine if you firewall is the issue or isn't, just turn it off and try to connect to whatever server you want.

If that doesn't make a difference try the following:

Goto start menu --> "run command" ---> type in "cmd" and press enter.

type into the dos prompt

ftp ftp.debian.org

(no ftp:// stuff)

username is "anonymous"
Password is usually your e-mail address.

I know that one works.

I don't know,

check out Norton's website and see if they have some FAQ lists, dealing with fixes or what to do to get ftp working.

Maybe they have free e-mail help for customers or something.
