FTP/IRC behind router?

I'm pretty new at this and haven't been able to figure this out so I thought I'd give a try here.

Roommate and I have a roadrunner cable connection that we share through a router (SMC barricade). I've been trying to access the FTP server on my computer (serv-u) but am not able to login from computers ouside the network. It seems to work fine within the network though. I've tried experimenting with web-based configuration for the router (virtual server, etc) but am not getting any results.

I'm having the same troubles trying to log onto IRC, everytime I try to connect to a server it does not give me permission and kicks me back out.

Any help through the thread or pm would be much appreciated!🙂
Thanks in advance!

u need to forward the ports your FTP server is using through the router...

You should be able to do so in the router configurations... find out which ports your FTP server uses and forward them...
