Epic was fined $520m by the FTC for a few reasons. For one, they were using dark patterns in Fortnite. That is they were using UI design tricks to dupe players into purchases. I've alays said that when you play these type of "free games" its the same as going to the casino. They need to go after NBA2k and EA sports. Another issue is they were collecting personal data on children under 13 years of age.

I'm not at all surprised that this is Epic. I'd argue mobile games are far worse at this practice but if they can set a precedent with a larger company, maybe it'll change how the F2P mobile games prey on people with micro-transactions.
