Fscking speed traps

It sucks, but it helps police subsist in low crime areas, the manpower and equipment isn't free. I'd much rather have them there and have the chance of getting a speeding ticket than not have them there and have the chance of having my home burglarized or a friend/family member accosted. At any rate, don't blame the officer, most are just doing their job, and very few really relish crapping all over someone's day. Just show up in court and s/he'll probably have it reduced to a seatbelt ticket or similar, ie. something with a lower fine and no license demerits.

Yep. It sucked that the OP was breaking the law and got caught. Some laws are really not that important anyway I guess.

It seems like a catch-22.

If you follow the speed limit, people here will tell you, you drive like a grandma and need to stay out of the way, or speed up and follow the flow of traffic.

If you get caught speeding following the traffic, people will say you deserve it.

How can you win?

Actually, that's not how it is at all.

You're free to drive as fast as you want in my opinion. Just don't come b!tching and moaning to everyone about it when you finally do get caught and have to pay a fine or get points on your license.

I'm sure many people agree with this.

So the choices are $100 fines vs the scorn of some forum posters?

Yeah - That's quite the dilemma you got there...

Driving over the speed limit will eventually catch up to you. I accept the fact that if I'm going to do 10-15 over the limit, eventually I'll get a ticket. Part of driving. I only do this, however, on highways, as there are waaaaaay to many children in my town to want to speed, ESPECIALLY in low speed zones (playgrounds, schools etc.).

So someone going the speed limit on a 30 mph road wouldn't anger you?

Nope. I'd probably find a way to get around them (cut through side streets, alternate roads, etc), but why should I get pissed off at someone for following the law?

I love my radar detector <3

Radar detector wouldn't help you around here, the cops can't use radar off the highways.

What do they use? Laser? The cops locally use radar, small town in ohio.

I don't change the way I drive, I'm just pointing out the contradiction that you see pop up everytime a thread like this is posted.

Man whatever, its not like stopping him for going 10 over is gonna save a life. I bet everyone does that, and right now about 50 people in the next minute are gonna be going 30 mph or over in that place! The city just needed some money and the op was the lucky winner.

There is a big difference between going 10-15 over on the freeway and going 10-15 over in a residential area or a school zone. The two aren't comparable, in my opinion.

OH BOO FSCKING HOO. I apologized and he still goes and gives me a $100 fine. 10mph is fscking barely speeding and it was so obvious it was a speed trap because about 10 feet in front of me, there is a sign that says 'Speed Limit: 30 MPH.' SO WTF? I would've argued and bitched but god knows that wouldn't have helped. omg such bs. I don't even care about paying the fine, I just don't want to see it on my insurance.

and yes a weak rant, I know.

STFU and pay up the fine. You are at fault, PERIOD. Don't be such disgrateful bastard. Those cops put their lives everyday at risk to protect lamers like you from getting killed, robbed or kidnapped

hell yeah, going over 10KM/hour at residential area may mean the difference of life and death of someone if you hit that person

So.. you're saying that a forum with thousands of registered members often contains views that are sometimes inconsistent?

Like.. I think you just blew my mind...

I'd like to know where too...because my radar detector goes off like a fire alarm all the time in the city and on residential streets when I pass a policeman. Nothing like going down a road for 2-3 miles with a cop right behind you and the radar showing full bars (thank goodness my x50 has a mute).

It's obvious that none of these posters are from the Boston area like you and I... they don't know what it's like to drive around here. That being said, I have every right to b|tch and moan at some trap that was obviously setup just for generating revenue. Yes, the cop was doing his job but just because it's a piss poor city doesn't mean I have to help contribute to his quota. I was NOT endangering anyone's life... it was just the fact that I saw a sign that said 30mph ahead of me that really ticked me off.

Happened to me a few years back on 101 N going through a small town. It was 35 through the town which turned to 65 as you left the town. I saw the 65 MPH sign, maybe 300 or 400 back and accelerated in my blazingly fast 89 Camry. Yes I got caught for 50 in a 35 about 10 feet in front of the sign. And of course it was in Mendocino county and I lived in Sacramento.

Because only people from Boston would ever have to deal with speed traps, or experience your pain 🙁

Would you like some cheese with that whine?

This forum's full of teenage geeks who get back at their oppressors by putting down other geeks behind the veil of internet anonymity. What else would you expect?
