I got ripped off today @ King Soopers. Thought they had a good deal on some shrimp, but didn't catch the fine print that says the sale price is only good with a "soopercard". Cost me $3, and reminded me why I rarely shop there.

I know this is kind of trivial, but WTF is up with this crap? At what point did we get to the point that we're willing to be tracked, and potentially harassed via telephone solicitations and junk mail just to save a few bucks on groceries. Why is it any of their damn business to know who I am, where I live, etc. every time I want to buy some corn flakes.

I'll get one of those damn cards when they don't have a bar code and I can get one without giving out personal information.

I know everybody is probably rolling their eyes right now thinking I need to tighten up my tinfoil hat. But you've got to draw the line somewhere, and saving a few bucks a year for the privilege of being tracked is over the line for me, so I'll shop somewhere else. King sooprers prices aren't that good anyway.

It's boiling frogs ... soon enough, TIA will go through and you'll need ID to wipe your ass.

Eh it's all right. I don't care who knows which kinds of Campbell's soup I buy so I don't mind using the card to save some $$.

and then you realize that over a full year, a good shopper can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars with these cards. I personally think its worth it, and a lot of others do too.

I think these "club" cards are a total crock (no offense to Aussies or crocodiles or Steve Irwin the Croc Hunter ;) ).

They track all your purchases and tout savings "you can save up to $50 off" or some B.S. like that. In order to achieve the $50 off you have to spend an insane amount of money like $2,500 in one year. Sure if you have a big family you're shopping for but our average visit only costs $15 or so.

What's even more troublesome is our favorite grocery store Albertson's is copying Safeway in offering their own "Club Card Savings" program.

$#@!$!%!

Two big grocery chains here use those cards. I found that you can sign up for one with a totally fictitious name and address.

yes, but even on the little purchases, you save a buck here, 30 cents there...it adds up...I love my Safeway and QFC cards.

I'm ticked off at Albertsons, not because they HAVE a card now, but because previous to this all their advertising was touting the fact that they DIDN'T have a card. I think they took that down and started issuing cards in the same day. That bugs me for some reason.

I don't have to spend any certain amount at Safeway or Albertson's (two very big chains over here). All I do is walk in, they swipe my card, and the things listed on club card sale I get for as much as $.50 off the regular or sale price. :)

That pisses me off even more. Albertson's and Safeway always had low prices but all of the sudden when they began offering these cards their "non-club" prices skyrocketed. So unless you wanna pay retail you're stuck using their cards to take advantage of their "instant savings".

This means I can no longer buy tampons and Cosmo magazine with total anonnymity!

they're pissed because they used to get savings without having to use a card, and now they have to use the card to get the same prices. I dont know if thats true or not, but i could see some people getting upset over it.

Yup. Just give them fake info.

Then, if you win anything, you won't get your prize for providing false information. That's part of the user agreement at most places.

Albertsons is going to cards also ... since Cub's got bought out, that leaves Walmart as the on grocery store in town that doesn't use em :(

And yes, I do shop online, and use credit cards occasionally. Where it makes sense and there is some need to be identified, fine. But why does a grocery store need this information? And no, I don't give a damn if they now what brand of soup I buy. It's a principle kind of thing.

And "save hundreds, even thousands of dollars" ... yea right. I doubt it unless you've got a huge family.

I never understood that to be so, but I wasn't looking for that when I read it. :Q

How could they? Do these grocers now write and enforce the law?
