I had the last few classes I need selected and was all set to graduate this upcoming year.

I found out today that one of the classes I took to cover my humanities requirement isn't even applicable towards humanities!

"You should have checked to see if it was acceptable"

Answer: I did check with 2 separate student advisors to see if the class I wanted to take was acceptable for credit. They both said YES!

Fsck I'm pissed that now I gotta go complain like hell and have them say "well you're responsible for your own schedule"... ya no sh!t... I did take the responsibility of checking TWICE and the only reason I'm even here now is because YOU FSCKED UP!

Conventional wisdom - undergraduates are just a cash cow for the faculty, who only care about their research and graduate students.

Your college doesn't care about you. Unless you graduate and make tons of money. Then the alumni association will hound your ass for the rest of your life.

it happens. i had to file a grievance at school because i had WRITTEN PROOF (in the school's course guide!!!!) that one of my classes was 4 credits toward the requirement. when i saw my transcript and there were only three credits accounted for, i went storming in the dean's office to show them that i was right and they were wrong.

well, after they met and consulted with each other, they told me i still had to make up that 4th credit since another course guide (not applicable to my school) showed that it was really a 3-credit course. :| i was angry.

but i made up that 4th credit. what else could i have done?

Back in the dark ages when I was a college student, we had things called "course catalog" and "degree programs" booklets that listed this information in writing.

With a bit of RTFM I didn't need to trust whether I'd gradute to some underpaid (and underqualified?) university employee.

my favourite part about my university alumni association is that i got a really crappy paying job out of uni (canadian).

i am making more money after college and loved filling that out on my last alumni questionnaire.

Assuming that you've read the class catalog, graduation requirements, and what each class counts towards, did you reach the same conclusion as they have? Sometimes in addition to asking for counsel, it helps to do your own research.
