I have just installed an Asus A7N8X DX (rev 2.0) motherboard, with BIOS 1002. The CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2400+. The difficulty I am having is that my choices for CPU speed seem to be limited to 100, 133, 166, and 200. I thought PC2100 was capable of running on a 266 bus speed? Do I have to upgrade to PC2700 RAM to achieve the higher bus speed?
The BIOS settings that seem to work for me right now are a CPU speed of 133 with a 7.0x/15.0x multiplier, and system performance set to aggressive. When I have the RAM speed set to SPD, the system audibly reports RAM failure on POST, even though Windows XP boots and seems fine. Set to Aggressive, the system passes all startup self test and boots normally.
Is this a RAM problem, or do I need to manually set each and every parameter. I've already given myself a good scare with experimenting with different CPU speeds and multipliers and had to yank the battery and reset the CMOS settings. Is there somewhere with a good breakout of CPU vs BIOS settings that I could follow? Thanks for any advice.
