FSB questions.. Bandwidth vs. Raw Speed

😎 This is the first expiriment into the world of overclocking and RAID😎
Abit KX 7 333R
MP 2000+
2 WD BB200's in a raid array, 32kb chunks
1 stick of the 62$ crucial pc2700 512Mb
GF3 TI200
SB Live
This Bios maxes out at 5:2:1
I have it at 10 x172FSB, maxed out ram settings, 1.8 volt proc, 2.7 volt ram
will I benefit from upping the FSB and relaxing the multiplier?
It seems to die at 1.75 ghz, fails prime at about 51 minutes in. going strong now, looks stable as heck at 35c system, 52c proc.
I could try everything under the sun and bench it all, but I am going over some well worn ground, If you know what I mean😀
What is your conclusion on higher fsb with lower raw speed, or keeping it near a 66/33 agp/pci?

HD's can't stand high PCI speeds for long
max palo(AGOIA)voltage i'd go to is 1.95v, for long term i'd stay at 1.85 and under, lower is better)
max RAM voltage i'd go to is 2.8v

thats only 2 mhz out of spec should be fine, i run 1.9v through my 2000+xp tbred and 35 pci fsb for pci and it works fine, and odds are at 1.9v its still gonna last until it needxs to be upgraded anyways

Thanks for the info....
Upgrade?? As you can see, I put together a machine about 3 generations back of what most peeps are posting😉

Very cheaply, thanks to the FS/FT forum and the bleeding edge upgraders😛🙂😀
I'm going to try for 10.5 x 175 fsb, and keep all the voltage bumps to a minimum. I'll back off to spd on the memory if I have to.

by going bad, do you mean completely failing, as in RMA?? :Q
or just getting flakey till you back off??😕

Anything above 38 for PCI is really pushing it. The sound card will crap and files in the hdd will get corrupted. That's not what you want when you move 10gb of mp3s. 🙂

I usually draw the line at 37.5MHz these days. I would give it a go at 9.5 x 181MHz. Crucial PC2700 can hit 195-200MHz, but that's at cas2.5 with slightly relaxed timings, so you might have to move the memory settings down a little bit. But you will still get better bandwidth scores according to Sandra with a higher fsb, unless you have to drop all the way down to the lowest settings.

I backed off to 2.5-6-2-2-2, prime crashed instantly at 180fsb and 2-5-2-2-2
I though it was all processor, but it seems OK at 9.5 X180 system temp 36, proc at 54
I will try higher fsb🙂
Up to 183 now.
