A friend is looking at getting the E4600 CPU which has an 800mhz FSB.

The motherboard he is looking at states:

FSB 1333/1066MHz

The MB is: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35

Do MB normally support lower FSB, so will the CPU work?

Thanks.

check the CPU support list for that mobo from Gigabyte's site but I would expect it to work.

The E4600 is listed in the CPU Support list for both the Rev. 1 and Rev. 2 versions of the board, so yes. Make sure you have at least the F2 BIOS, which I would venture to guess is what it first shipped with.

The DS3L absolutely supports 800 MHz FSB chips like the e2140. Lots of people are using that series with the board for cheap overclocking.
