I have a kk266, and I am running the fsb at 170. It is rock solid, excpet every few days, my connection will die, and I will have to restart. I know its not the connection, because all the other computers on my network are still connected, and I know its not windows, because it didnt happen before the overclock. My question is this: does the kk266 have the option for lower dividers, and if so, how do I use them?

thanks,
marc

You are already using the 1/4 divider on your mobo. Its the PCI frequency, its something around 42 Mhz for your system. And your NIC cant handle such a high frequency.
I saw many ppl that lost their NICs OCing.
Changing the NIC might be the best solution, to one NIC that can handle such high frequency.

Good luck!

Yup, your only option is either to deal with the problem, or get a new NIC. Seeing how far out of spec the PCI bus is, it isn't really a surprise.

OR, an even more interesting question (to me, at least) - is there any way to "cool" my nic? i.e., how better cooling can help oc a cpu better? maybe i can glue a blue orb on it, or something? would that make any difference? i would like to get as much speed out of my fsb as possible.

I use a 3COM Fast Etherlink XL 10/100 (3C905B-TX). No problems at 155 FSB. Cooling the chip? Don't know, never tried it.

Well..I am using a Netgear FA311 on my KK266-R, but my FSB is only @ 165mhz. If the Netgear doesn't work for you, you might want to try the more expensive 3com server NICS that are speced for the 33mhz and 66mhz PCI slots. They should have no trouble with a PCI bus in the 40's. They are more expensive though...~$50+
