i read in an article that when they overclocked their pc133 ram to 260, it made the pci ports unstable. if i overclock my fsb, will my ports become unstable? what hardware is affected?

Hardware affected is usually every card in your system plus your harddisk, if you're using non-standard FSB speeds. Of course, how much risk depends on how much you overclock the FSB and also the quality of your components. You can usually set the PCI and AGP dividers manually though.

I'm not sure what you mean by clocking PC133 ram at 260. Anyone can clarify the statement? I though PC133 Ram had a double pumped rate of 266Mhz on AMD chipsets?

Adam :Q

Well back on topic, I'm waiting for DDR-SDRAM :)

Now, that will do significantly above 160 for sure. ;) ;)

<< I doubt DDR will go much over 150..x2=300. >>

.. that's 300 .. 260, 300.. 260, 300. Just because it's uses the rising and falling edges of the clock doesn't mean you can't count its effective speed (300).

:)

whoops, heh, seems a typo started a new topic! yea, i meant 160. i'm deciding whether i want to get some mushkin ram that i can o/c high, but then i might have to worry about my other components too.... i might just get some athlon compatible ram. how great of a performance increase is there between a fsb of 133 and one o/c to 150? thanks a lot! SO, what are some companies i should start looking at? crucial, mushkin, corsair, 1st/2nd ems, infineon, micron, kingston, etc... ?

You shouldn't buy high-clocked RAM for your Athlon/Duron/Thunderbird, because the only way you should overclock an AMD setup is through the multiplier.

Yep, i suspect it's the current motherboard chipset though that limits FSB overclocking viability for AMD chips.
