I know memory and other components can hold you back on the FSB speed but what are other people getting for FSB speed with a stock locked AMD 1800XP processor?

mine won't go over 143 fsb.
Memory holding me back and possibly my PS.
I'm thinking about unlocking mine so I can bump up the mulitplier.

I'm not sure what mine will stop at. I've had it up somewhere past 145 or so, but I can't remember. Mine's not too stable at that speed, and my HSF is mediocre.

I ran mine on a Dragon+ at 145 24/7 since the first week of Jan. and never had a problem. I had it at 150 but never did stress testing at that speed. That was probably pushing it a little hard (+.75 on the 145 and +.1 on the 150).

This is a very good question that I'm trying to figure out myself. I have a 1900+ XP and I have it at 148mhz FSB for 1776mhz. It runs very cool, yet I can't get it over that. I know it's not my other components as I had a 1ghz AXIA TBird in there running at 166mhz no problem. When I have time, I'm gonna unlock the processor multiplier and then see what it will do. Seems like it would run faster than this with the temps I have. I've tried upping the vcore up to 2.15v and it still won't run higher! I don't suggest doing that though...

Hmm, FSB probably won't limit you, but the mhz will. What I mean is, if you unlocked the cpu and used a real good mobo/ram, you could probably reach a 200(400mhz DDR)mhz fsb by lowering the multiplier and keeping it under the cpu's mhz limit. So, what you really need to know in your case, is how high can an Athlon XP 1800 be overclocked.

Mine got up to 150 and that's where I wanted it. Temps don't get any higher than 35 C with my Alpha 8045.

johndoe you are very lucky, that is awesome man, im glad for you that you got 150!! ;)

yeah the mhz limit seemed weird at first, but that is a good point and i think you hit it on the nose

unlocking the chip seems to be the best idea

Mine goes up to 148 FSB stable, I can go to 150 but it isn't very stable. ITs currently 100% stable at 147FSB, 44 Degrees with a Alpha PAL 8045u. I would say it is rare to go any higher than 150.

Well, I just got through unlocking my 1900+. What a freaking ordeal! Anyways, now it's stable at 160x11 (1760mhz). Highest I had unlocked was 147x12 (1764mhz) so the extra FSB helps out even though I'm just a mere 4mhz lower!

My 1800+ will post and run nice at 148 but Dungeon Siege will get an error after a few minutes. Only damn program that disagrees with the o/c. Stock mult. BTW (11.5).

Bumped it back down to 145 and it runs great.

As pointed out, the MHz speed of your CPU is probably the problem and you should unlock the multiplier to up the FSB. With multiplier unlocked my 1700+ maxes at 158, my Duron maxes at 124FSB without unlocking but at 156 when I unlock it.

The BIOS can also be an issue. I have an old BIOS that seems to have slower system timings, with identical mem timings on my new BIOS I max at 148 but on the old BIOS I max at 158. However the mem benchmarks are the same in both situations because the new BIOS seems much more efficient.
