FSB at 105 and ram at 133, is it possible?

Hi, i have a MSI K7T Pro2 and i heard i was able to run my ram at a different speed separate from my FSB.. but the manual doesnt tell me Squat.. i had my ram running at host clock + 33 but then when i upped the FSB SiSandra said that my ram was running too fast.. is there any way to get them to run separately??

No, you cannot run your memory speed totally different from your FSB speed. Your only option is to either put your FSB speed back down to a safe level or your other option is to just run you memory at just Host Clock. That way your FSB speed and memory will be 105 mhz, but I do not suggest doing this as you will lose performance from slower memory.

Wait a minute... I see that you have PC 150 memory. Running your FSB at 105 and your memory at 138 mhz should be no problem at all. I think the message from SiSandra is just a warning and that you can ignore that message since you have PC 150 memory. Just as long as nothing crashes and your system is stable you should be okay.

sandra has trouble with KT-133 chipset boards and they are planning a update to it. when is another question, so don't believe the readings from sandra.

K, man... lemme tell u something... Let's assume:

U just got a sample stick of RAM that runs up to 175 Mhz...

U have a PIII, & up the bus to... 133 & the memory to 133+33(PCI)=166

U test QIII & Unreal Tournament framerates & they're so high that u've seen nowhere this... no crashes, no nothing....

Then u get SiSoft Sandra, which tells you that you're memory is running too high... r u going to change it back?

Think not... Don't relay on diagnostic software always (it's crappy) & that's why Anandtech Forums r for ;-)

Thanks for the advice guys! another thing is... my motherboard didnt come with a metal plate for the back... and my old one doesnt have the extra openings for the onboard sound so i just left it off.... is there an easy way to make holes in that metal?
