fsaa on diablo 2??

from what blizzard tech guys say, it helps a little to smooth the edges. Can any confirm? don't got the hardware to do it...
 
Nope, from what I understand the only d3d rendered parts are the skill animations, so those might appear a bit smoother, but overall the game environment should look the same.
 
The last time I checked, FSAA smoothes edges of 3D rendered images. Only spell and skill animations are actually 3D-rendered in Diablo II; the rest is 2D isometric.
 
Yes, but the whole scene would be considered 3D probably.

Look at Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The backgrounds are 3D with 2D sprites as your characters, but the entire screen is treated as a 3D image, so aliasing and such are applied to the sprites.

Of course I could be wrong 😛

Piku is right - FSAA does have an effect in D2, and you can see the effect on static objects such as chests, walls or various buildings and not just on spell effects, smoke, etc. If you have a V5 use a batch file in your Diablo folder with the following in it -

set fx_glide_aa_sample=4
set fx_glide_aa_toggle_key=144
game.exe

Running this batch file to start the game allows will allow you to see the effect of FSAA by toggling it on and off with the Num Lock key. It doesn't have such a dramatic effect as in other games but it does IMHO make the game look better. Strangely it does nothing for the main character but the effects on NPCs or static objects is definitly there.
