Stick with NT4 or if you must 98. You gotta have at least 128MB RAM to run Win2k well and even that slows down considerably when running intense apps.
Decent price even with as old as the laptop is (not going to hark on how this is in the wrong thread, from what I hear you'll probably get banned from Anandtech if the mods see it).
i run win2k on my laptop with only 96MB ram. it works fine. Most people dont push their laptops as hard as they desktops so (to some) power isnt as important as portability. Word, Internet, Counterstrike all work fine so im not complaining.
You will have to price match my company. We have these but 333Mhz and they are going off lease and we can buy for $250 and that includes an extra AC and battery.
So, if you want to PM - the accessories to sell for $150-$200, let me know. I also want to use my coupon !!!
dude, i am running win2k on a pentium 133 and 64 mb of RAM at work... it kicks ass! at home i've got the athlon 1 ghz @ 1.4, 256 MB of mushkin rev3+, etc, but it is kind of neat to take a slow piece of sh#t and get it to run.
my roomate had a gateway solo 2500 or something. with a p2-333 and 32mb of ram, and he ran win2k. he figured, it was better slow, than crashing in win98
