FS/FT in DC forums

It has long been a practice in the DC forms to list equipment or software for sale to give teammates first stab at it before listing it on the FS/FT forum. Sometimes the item is listed on FS/FT and a thread pointing to the FS/FT thread is posted. This has been going on for a long time.

One of those threads just got locked:

Locked Thread

Is this practice no longer going to be allowed?

We were told quite a while ago not to have many of the "TeAm member only" sales. There are 2 in the first 30 threads right now (including the locked one) and there was another one over the weekend. IIRC, it wasn't supposed to be more then 1 every few days.

I also think there is a big difference between offering something to TeAm members only and just linking to their FS/T thread. The first one directly relates the the DC forum. The second is just advertising. I could find hundreds of threads in FS/T that relate to DC if only by the fact that they are selling computer hardware.

I can't answer for the mods, but those are my 2 cents on the issue.

Sciencewhiz,
from your post, I'm not sure if you are in favor of the FS/FT posts or not. If 2 of the 3 posts are merely links to a member's thread in FS/FT, then there would be only 1 that is a "For Members Only" sale, thus still fitting in with the 1 every few days.

I personally don't have a problem with them, and haven't seen any abuse of the priviledge either. Yes, most of the FS/FT threads would be related to DC, but the fact is that only Team Members post about FS/FT items in DC, and/or link to their threads in FS/FT, so there is only the occasional post. If FS/FT members that weren't part of a DC project started popping in and "advertising", then I would be first in line to shut them down.

I'll wait and see what the answer will be as to whether the "traditional" policy will be allowed to continue, or if it will be changed to restrict these kinds of posts.

Ray, is my roundabout logic too much for an old man? :p /me runs away from the cane.

Anyway, I think that links to FS/T posts should not be allowed, but DC only sales should.

Part of that is because I seems to me to be a relatively new phenomenon to link to FS/T posts (but then again, I may not be clicking on the right posts).

ScienceWhiz,
You're safe today, as I'm slower than usual, both mentally & physically! :Q

Thanks for the clarification. :)

Hehe, when I see a post by a TA member linking to a thread in FS/FT, I keep thinking "Hey, why in the heck didn't they post it here and give us a chance to get our greedy little hand on it first!"

:D

I don't mind as long as they are TA members, and they don't become too frequent.

BTW, I see that the moderators unlocked Wolfie's thread, so I guess it's ok for now. Thanks mods! :D

Wow. A lot happens when You only get a chance to come on the computer once maybe twice a day.

Now in reference to my post in DC. I thought about posting the sale in the DC forums first. And only there. BUT, I feel that most people looking for stuff would be in the FS/FT forums. Now, later on, (a Couple days later) I thought.. you know. Most of my friends probly don't even know I am selling something over in FS/FT forums. Now, this is when I posted the thread in DC. I thought instead of Typing it all out again. Or doing a Copy and Paste I would just link to the other thread. Maybe I worded it wrong or something. But, I was not trying to Spread my word by spaming the entire Forums about my sale. That would be plain wrong. That I do understand. But since the people in DC are considered my friends I thought I would let them in on the sale I had over at FS/FT forums.

Mods, do what you must do. And if this is wrong, Please let me know. I just thought I would throw in what I was thinking when I posted the DC forums.

Thanks.

Wolfie

PS, Thanks All for working this out when I wasn't around to "fight for my thread" :D
