FS forum idea

I always have a hard time searching for stuff in FS. Like, if I want a laptop, do I search for "laptop" or "notebook", or "thinkpad"? Of course, I have to search for all three. Why not make categories?

You could have some way to select a category when posting a WTB/FT/FS in the FS forum. When posting you could clock one or more categories for it show up in (like if you were selling a laptop and a video card, you could click the "notebook" and the "video card" categories). Then people could sort based on category, alleviating searching woes.

I'm not say break up FS/T into categories, I'm just suggesting a category function in the search.

Maybe it's a bad idea, I don't know.

but an OR based search would be nice...

I don't think there is enough volume of specific items for sale for AT FS/FT forum to warrant this. Its free service.

But in ANY of the forums, an OR based search would do wonders for killing reposts and stuff as well.

meh, I think it'd be easy to implement and pretty awesome, but thats just me.

I agree, an OR would make things a lot better. Also, it seems if you search multiple words it takes it as a literal in the search. I.e. search thinkpad t23 and get a lot of results, search t23 thinkpad and get zero. I know there is a term for that, but I'm not sure what the term is.

No to be an ass, but are you people dense? The keywords AND OR NOT have been in the search feature since the upgrade.

From the help section:

To construct a search string you can use the following boolean operators: AND OR AND NOT Example: dog and cat or sheep and not bird
+ The word is mandatory in all rows returned.
- The word cannot appear in any row returned.
* The wildcard, indicating zero or more characters. It can only appear at the end of a word.
" Anything enclosed in the double quotes is taken as a whole (so you can match phrases, for example).

Edit: so
Search: laptop AND notebook - returns threads with both words
Search: laptop OR notebook - returns threads with either word
Search: laptop NOT notebook - returns threads with the first word but not the second
