Looks like only the 6800GT comes close to handling 10X7 4X0X, so those with 6800GTs and X800XLs and below are looking at 10X7 2X8X as their sweet spot.

I seem to remember some telling me in my "SLI necessary for FEAR" thread that the game would never come to market with such high system requirements. (and replying to them the changes won't be huge if it's really two months from release)

Looks to me like SLI is exactly what is needed to play FEAR like we're used to playing games. (which is a good reason to spoil yourself and buy that second card!) Same holds true for Crossfire, I imagine. (I haven't seen Crossfire results on FEAR but imagine they'll be similar to SLI)

That 6600 GT isnt much behind at 1024x768 with no AA/AF

Good card that little guy was. I thoroughly enjoyed Far Cry and HL2 maxed out with that baby.

I can't speak for the 6800GT, but I highly doubt the x800XL can handle 10x7 2x8x as a "sweet spot". I'm having a horrible performance experience with FEAR on my antiquated X800Pro, which I have overclocked to roughly approximate stock X800XL performance. (525 core, 1050 mem)

This is coming from someone who's been playing the game for the last 2 days straight, more or less... with some occasional Quake 4 "break time" thrown in. :)

Q4 performance (and "fun") is looking much better than FEAR IMO.

I agree with this part. The game either needs:

1. An SLI system

2. Lots of optimization to the engine!

It only has trouble handling more than 10*7 if you use max settings. If you lower the settings you can go to higher res. According to the article lowering to medium quality has minimal impacts on what you see.
