I purchased this last week and it's been running fine running through prime95 and 3dmark for 2 days now.
The mobo is really plain and doesn't give you a lot of options but works just fine. It's for my uncle so he doesn't really to tinker much.
Just make sure you read the manual and setup all the jumpers correctly, especially the ram voltage and the fsb speed.

This is NOT available at the Houston, TX store. Even though I called in advance and asked a sales associate at the Houston store and he confirmed it was valid.

I drove 180 mi round trip to find out the Houston store only had a P4 1.8a + mobo for $159, ok but I already have a P4 1.8a and wanted the P4 2.4 + mobo deal. I was told the P4 2.4b +mobo for $199 was a CA stores only ad. I even talked to the Store Manager and explained to him one of his sales associates confirmed the price over phone. I ask the manager enlight of the fact I drove 90 mi from Beaumont, TX would he at least PM with his OWN COMPANY. All he offered back was the Houston ad of the P4 1.8a+mobo, hell he didn't even apologize for my inconvience.

Needless to say I stormed out of the store. I Currently have an email off to corporate and a phone message for someone named Rachel in customer relations at the corporate office. I doubt I get anything accomplished but I will vent my frustration all the way to Randy Fry if I have to!!

What I come away with this is:

I have to agree with you there, their customer service has to be one of the more unfriendlier ones that I've seen around. But the combo deals makes up for it, at least for me. :)

Lantano, the deal should be available in Houston, it's on Chronicle Fry's ads on Sunday. P4 2.4GHz retail plus ECS mobo for $199
tell them the item# 3550044

BTW, I agree their service s*cks big time, seemed like it is getting worse by the day. Employees with attitude and lackadaisical service will not help them sell stuff. However when they have deal, you can't find other place (local stores) cheaper.

Can you scan the chronicle Ad and PM me? I would love to have proof (I didn't get the Sunday Ad) when I talk to the Corporate Customer Relations person on Tuesday. They will dang sure be offering up some discounts or free shipping to my house! Why in the heck would they advertise a price and know nothing about it at the store (even the acting store manager)?? Although I was told over the phone by a sales assoc. the $199 deal was correct.... the plot thickens.....

Don't waste your time. Customer Relations doesn't doesn't care. Randy Fry doesn't care. Believe me, I live in Silicon Valley and have watched Fry's piss off customers with their terrible attitude and crappy service since they opened in 1985. This is part of their "business model", it costs money to hire knowledgeable and friendly employees, money that would otherwise end up in the bottom line, so they don't. I used to think it would eventually bury them but they continue to grow because their customers put up with it! The attitude of Fry and his management team when you complain is to tell you to shut up and go someplace else if you don't like it! It's not like we don't have viable alternatives here in the Valley. But for some reason people keep coming back. Maybe they're masochistic, I dunno. It's certainly not the pricing. With a few exceptions each week, I can usually easily match or beat their prices at any number of local places.

Cracks me up when I see people here who would kill to have a Fry's where they live. Be careful what you wish for! ;)

Well Sucess!! I talked to the department manager this morning and after much apologizing by him & the acting store manager they let me have a P4-2.4B C1 stepping with the ECS mobo for $149! Now that's a deal and I think more things like that will help change Fry's crappy image, at least in my mind.....

BIG PROPS TO FRY ELECTRONICS IN HOUSTON!!

I got inon this deal weeks ago same board as before.

no matter what I did it utterly refuses Crucial ddr. Yes I know I need to change the long strip of jumpers and no it doesn't help.

If you want the motherboard I'll sell it to anyone that wants it.

I dunno, I've never had a problem returning or getting new parts from frys. Luck of the draw????? Last experience went really well. Brand new Combo I bought a dragon ultra 2100+ AMD. Couldn't get the thing to post @ 133. The service phreak even tried... Put the board up on the bench ... So, he tried a diffrent chip and it posted @ 133.

I felt this to be a bit strange as I was thinking it was the MOBO not AMD chip. So, I told them I'd like to get a brand new chip and board. They told me to go get a new one and return it to them I did and all was good... Didn't get a referb one.. New one out of the box. And new Retail Chip out of the box. Orginal chip had the crappy heat pad. New one had the heat paste... Got it home everything worked like it should have.

Sometimes I think people wait for 90 days to pass then they try to get $$ back or somthing. Or maybe frys is out of stock and they return equipment only to find that they can get a refurbished unit. Never take a refubished unit.... If they only have used returned crap to re-give to you then ask for cash back...

ECS = you get what you pay for. Are the savings really worth the hassle?

In my case yes, becuase my 1.8a will go with this mobo to build a computer for someone I work with for cheap. All they need is an email, internet, word/excel/powerpoint machine and this will nicely fit the bill. The C1 revision P4 2.4B will go in my Abit IT7 Max mobo along with some 512 mb Corsair PC3200 and heck it's all good since I only paid $149 for the CPU and mobo, so I could care less if the mobo is all that or not...
