Dropped by my local (Duluth, GA) Fry's today looking for some memory and what do I find, but some Mushkin PC3200 DDR 512MB sticks for $49.99 after $30 MIR. Only 1 per customer, but it was exactly what I've been looking for so I grab it up.

DDR 512MB 3200 Mushkin
MU512W8BDDT32

Rebate Requirements:
1. Purchase 512MB PC3200 (PLU#3328752) at Fry's Electronics on 12/31/04-1/04/05
2. Postmarked by 1/18/05

After all that I went through at Fry's today checking out, I wish I would have checked Outpost too. Damn they have a bunch of incompetant people working there that shouldn't be interacting with humans.

Sometimes I think about ordering their sale items through outpost just to avoid the lines on big sale days, such as black Friday, and paying the shipping costs. Then there are times when I just get that "need to have it now" itch and I go to the store and just buy it.

JFC, just as I pay $129 for this like 2 or 3 days ago for 2 of these at Newegg, I had been waiting for a few weeks.

But then you gotta pay Tax AND Shipping which sucks. I'd rather just drive and get mine myself.

Was in a line like 150 long and it took about 15 minutes. On busy days like this they have ~40 cashiers. I've spent that long in a 3 person line at Target before.

I ended up spending 20 minutes waiting for some manager to process a refund because the cashier charged me for 12 of something I only bought 2 of. My original wait in line was only about 3 minutes.

The specs listed on outpost are 2.5-4-4 but I dont think thats accurate. Newegg is selling a dual pack of what I think is same stuff 2x512 with specs of 2.5-3-3 for only $130, no rebate. In case there's any rebate haters out there.

BTW, pricewatch lists the absolute crap cheapest generic PC3200 memory for $104 for a gig. I think the mushkin dual pack is well worth the additional $25 with better timings and lifetime garuntee and if you dont like rebates, no rebates. :)

Also to add on to this, the price on the 1GB mushkin dual pack price has been fluctuating. When i frist saw this deal 3 days ago it was $139 and I was still a lil hesitate about ordering... and what do you know; the next day the price dropped to $129.00, but im still hesitate to order to what the price will be tomorrow.... maybe $120. :p haha i doubt it!

Well memory always fluctuates. Its one of the most volatile computer products, one of the VERY FEW computer items that can and often does actually go UP in price.
Besides, I would imagine that if the price dropped within 30 days you could get newegg to refund you the differance. Otherwise you could just return it and order it again.

Being as the closest price on pricewatch is $169 for the dual mushkin pack, and as I said its only $25 more than the cheapest of cheap crap generic, I dont think its gonna go lower than $129 for a while.

I'm still looking for 1GB DIMMs. Want to pop 3 of those in my system. :)

Rather - good prices on 1GB DIMMs.

I jumped on this yesterday. The rebate doesn't ask for the UPC. Is that normal on memory rebates?

I thought that was weird too, until I read the entire rebate form on my receipt which states:
The original UPC code from the package must be mailed with this submission form.

Looks like Mushkin/rebate processor is trying to get sneaky on us. Shame on you Mushkin!

When I grew up in Duluth, I went to Chattahoochee HS; I lived in the tiny little sliver of the postal area that wasn't part of Gwinnett. These days I live in the part of Norcross that really should be considered Lilburn. I see a trend emerging ;)

I'm alwatys double and triple checking rebates before sending them in. So far I haven't had a single one denied for something I've forgotten to include doing this. I hope to keep that string of success intact!
