Frys - Maxtor (Seagate) 320GB IDE HD -$79

I just picked up a 320GB IDE Maxtor (salesdrone said it was really Seagate) drive. It's not their ultra quiet model but for $79 bux, it's hard to complain. This was in Austin Texas.

Model L01y300
DiamondMax 21
Buffer size: 16MB
7200RPM

Sale goes on thru Oct 10.

Yes, Seagate owns Maxtor now, and their technologies is creeping into Maxtor drives. What's the warranty on it? Seagate "branded" internal drives have a 5 year warranty while traditionally Maxtors have either a 3 year or 1 year warranty. Seagate PR stated that they were keeping the Maxtor "brand" for the mainstream, with the shorter warranties.

Saw this deal at Fry's yersterday and was suprised to see the "free 20GB" sticker on it making it a 320 GB HDD deal. There wasn't a price sign on top of the display and seemed like the pallet was still untouched.

For $.25/GB seems like a deal to me but I guess some are already saving up for Black Friday.

This deal is available online with Maxtor 300GB. This will be a hit and miss with the free extra 20GB. Free shipping online.
What's the warranty length on these, now that they are own by Seagate?

Is it safe to assume that since Seagate's technologies are creeping into Maxtor's drives that this won't be a PITA drive?

i already saw a bunch of new style packages maxtor drives in compusa last week. maybe that's what these are, seagates's new maxtor value line.
