hi guys!

I went in on the deal at Fry's for a P4 2.4 and ECS motherboard combo for $159.99. I got mine at the SoCal Fry's in Fountain Valley. I got 2 combos so that I might have 2 chances at getting a C1 step. To my surprise, BOTH were C1 stepping. Sooo in case anyone wanted to get one or wondering if Fry's even had C1 CPU's, i can say yes. :) I won't be using that ECS motherboard obviously, but for $159.99, it's a pretty good deal. I'll just use that mb for another system :)

Here is what I got, my cpu's stepping code is: SL6RZ

sSpec Number SL6RZ
Processor Frequency 2.40B GHz
CPUID String 0F27h
Package Type FC-PGA2 478-pin
Core Voltage 1.525V
Bus Speed 533 MHz
Thermal Design Power 59.8W
Core Stepping C1
Max Junction Temp 71°C
L2 Cache Size 512K
Die Size 0.13 micron
L2 Cache Speed 2.40 GHz
ECC/non-ECC ECC
Bus/Core Ratio 18.0
Boxed/OEM Processor? OEM

Taken from:
Intel Processor Spec Finder

Hope this helps someone!

WOW!!!! I may have to check the fryes ads for this weekend!!! Probably can sell that ECS shite for a few bucks and make that one heck of a price....

Is that an OEM chip and thus does not contain INtels 3 year warranty???

I agree...I never use the retail HSF anyways and in most cases I will take retail but this saving s would be hard to look past...I wonder if those fryes morons will check for me for a specific product code if I ask politely!!!

Do you know if when you buy an OEM CPU at Fry's, can you ask them to let you check the stepping?

The C1 stepping is the newest batch of northwood cpus from intel yielding the highest overclocks.

I've asked politely 2 times before if the guys at the cpu cage would look for a certain date or code for me and they've denied me both times saying it's too much trouble and they can't make an exception just for me. :(

The combo seems like a pretty good deal. You can always sell the mobo or use it as a backup no frills no extra mobo.

Feldenak, what's the pack date on it? Hopefully it's dec. or January, as I have 6EF that won't go beyond 2.95ghz@1.72v(actual) or lower :frown:

Yeah I was stoked when I bought it back in late october and discovered I got a C1 (pack date 10/08/02 ) then when it wasn't getting to 3ghz I was bummed. Then I saw the fix for the PCI/AGP lock issue on my P4PE/L and was hopefull that it would improve the overclock but it didn't do much despite taking the ram out of the equation :( The SL6RZ I picked up is a better clocker though so no complaints :)

Just picked up the combo pack at the south bay store and sho'nuff it's a c1 i hit 3.06 with my 8inxp. The chip is also oem SL6RZ/RK80532PE56512. Thanks for the heads up on that one good deal, also picked up one of those air purifiers for 28.00 keeps alot of the dust out of my rig so it does work. Hell they wanted 80.00 for that thing no wonder they couldn't sell'em. Sorta like the ECS board gotta get you with a c1 to get it outta there store he he.

What kind of air purifier is this? That is quite cheap.

>>I went in on the deal at Fry's for a P4 2.4 and ECS motherboard combo for $159.99.

OK.. So I went down Saturday to jump on this deal. Got myself the combo and Heatsink/fan and Powersupply...

I just finished putting things together and now when the PC boots up, it says
INTEL P4 1.80ghz...

the Box with the label sez 2.4ghz/533bus, the IMPRINT on the damn chip says the same thing, my receipt says the same thing..
so what gives? I am not looking to overclock this baby --not with the cheapie ECS mobo that it came with...
So I figured, I would at least get a 2.4ghz...

Can someone help me out? The ECS mobo is the default settings.. I didn't touch any jumpers on it.

Any ideas? Should I bring this back to Fry's and show them or am I just missing something simple here?

Thanks in advance.

what's the FSB and multiplier at?

if your showing 1800mhz, the multiplier is probably at 18 and your FSB is set to 100. Set it to 133. Maybe the ECS motherboard is set to 100mhz instead of 100.

18 x 133 = 2394 (2400)

:)

Look in the manual. You will have to change the default settings
for the clock from 100 to 133 with the jumpers.

I bought one of these today myself here in Austin.
It was a SL6RZ Malay Q304 = Week 4 2003

Paid $220 for the first 2.4b just a few weeks ago.
It only does 3.1Ghz. Maybe this one will do better. :)

huh? what air purifier for 28 bucks? i need 1 of those, allergy season is killing me

Frys has these hunter air purifiers model # 30065 it's about 12" high 14" wide they have them stacked on a pallete.

I hit 3.15 with the frys combo but can't stabilize my games. Even @ 166 where i had my 2.26 is rock solid. But with the 2.4 c1 at the same fsb 166 ram timmings 3-3-3-6 ocz dc el 3500 i hit the wall with prime 95 saying device failer. No matter what settings i tried this thing wouldn't stabilize, even @ default Arrrgh! What do you guys think need more break in time or take it back to frys. I mean it was nice to join the 3 gig club but don't really care. I put the 2.26 back in and all is good running @ 2.82 166 fsb. I also forgot to mention my wd hdd started freakin out as if it were not getting enough juice now that i think about it my 433 watt enermax aint cuttin it my have to bump up to overkill 650 watt sounds good. 8inxp, r9700 eat alot of wattage and the c1 is power hungry also what do think?

Howdy Smurfer :) you're@Asusboards a lot ain't ya? Anyways, I doubt it's your PSU, personally I would return the chip as there's no way@default Vcore and speed it should be causing issues of power draw or instability when the 2.26@2.82 isn't ;) Just sounds like you got a flakey chip, besides, maybe the next one will be a screamer!

Fry's has a 1 year warranty and a 15 day return policy. If the chip is giving errors a default 133fsb, then you should definately exchange it for another.

You might want to download MemTest86 and run all 11 tests at the default settings for your chip and memory. See if you get any errors from it. Prime95 has been reported to have bugs with the p4 chips.
This was supposed to be fixed with the latest version but I am not so sure.
