I ordered a NEC 3550 DL DVDRW bare drive and Pinnacle Studio 10.5 (FAR) from Frys.com.

They both arrived in the same box. There was no cushioning. No airbags, no styrofoam peanuts, no bubble wrap. Nothing but a completely bare drive in a plastic bag (and I don't even think it was an anti-static bag) and the software box. The drive was completely free to bounce around in the shipping box.

I checked the drive for damage, and it LOOKED alright. I installed it anyway, and it seems to work so far, but I can't help but wonder if any long-term damage will crop up later. Maybe something will lose calibration or something.

Anyway, Frys.com suxxors. Weird, cuz I've never had any problems with Outpost.com.

There is no difference between Fry's and Outpost; they are one in the same, ship from the same warehouses, etc.

Try Newegg next time.

I bought a hard drive from outpost a few weeks ago, decent packaging, not great, but not horrible. Newegg packs better, but so far frys beats them in shipping time. YMV ofc. :)

Even when you go to Fry's store, they will give you the smallest bag that will fit the items and would have the guts to spend 30 seconds to try to squeeze all the items into the tiny bag in front of you. For a slightly bigger item (like keyboard, retail harddrives), they wont even bother giving you a bag. Not surprise if they also cut corners on shipping.
