the cpu is probably plenty powerful if you had a radeon 2400 or 3450.

it might be able to do it maybe depending on the compression of your 1080p content with the g31

yeah i think that has vc1/h264 decode so it should be more than comparable. i just poitned out the 2400/3450 since they are more orl ess the cheapest card that will work.

If you want something better for an HTPC build, look at this combo from newegg for $99.

The single core sempron (almost always) unlocks to a full dual core athlon II @ 2.7ghz on the right motherboard. This is like the second setup linked by the OP, but with a very nice (and modern) 785G based MB.

it might actually be better to get the e1400 , g31 and a radeon 4650 on some MIR deal.

plus the 785g is still 5.1 only (not an issue if you dont have 7.1 reciever/speakers obviously)
