Fry's BF: Intel E6600 and AGP MP for $280

I'm almost positive it is retail. I've bought quite a few Fry's combos--the last one being the e6400 combo for $200--and it was a retail CPU. The only downside on this deal is the ECS Mobo that comes with it, but considering that NewEgg sells the same CPU for $308 alone, this is a good deal.

For those who are looking for something less expensive, you can wait and see if they will run the e6300 or e6400 combo deal again. They regularly sell the e6300 for $170 and the e6400 for $200. Or sometimes more but with a different motherboard.

Its OEM. Anytime Fry's puts up a picture of the actual retail boxed processor, then its a retail package. Otherwise, if its just the "Intel Core 2 Duo" emblem, then its an OEM processor.

The first time I bought an OEM processor from Fry's, it was DOA.

The Motherboard is pretty decent. I'm using it right now. Its really hit or miss though, alot of people report problems or DOA, but as a transitional mobo until more motherboards are release, its functional.

If you're getting a working processor, its well worth it

It is not worth it.

I just got back from Brokaw fry's. I'd rather pay for the sd card and go to radioshack for the bluetooth headset.

the line snakes and goes around the building to the other side of the business park

Unless you in line, by the time you get in they all out. and when you get out its probably noon time.

How bad is the ECS MB? It seems usable?

I gather from others that ECS can be hit or miss. In my personal experience, their MOBO's have been great as far as stability goes. Their lower end version don't overclock for squat, so don't expect to be doing any OC'ing on it. But if you just need a MOBO to round out a cheapo build, that one should be fine.

I have one of the ECS mobos and it works fine, no problems at all. Just don't expect to overclock it. It is what it is and it does it well. 🙂
