THIS IS A BOGUS AD.
I just got back from fry's. They said the '64' was a typo.
The clueless salesman also said there was no such thing as a
Sempron 64.

DEAL IS DEAD AND COLD.

Los Angeles times Fry's ad shows:
AMD Sempron 64 processor 2800+ with PC chips m848lu motherboard.
SiS 748 and 963 Chipset.
Supports DDR400 andAGP 8x
Onboard 6 channel audio and LAN.
Limit 1 per customer
$69.99 out the door.

The newspaper says sempron 64. The motherboard docs say socket A.
I am looking at AMD to find out if such a processor exists and find out more about it.
 
that mobo for sure ain't socket 754 (picture and even chipset/specs from pcchip's site). Either thay got the mobo wrong on this deal or they really meant to bundle this with a non-64-bit sempron (and added '64' by mistake). If someone is attempting to buy it, demand a Sempron 64 w/ an actual osket-754 mobo if you can...
 
No Sempron 64 bit with Socket A. The ad is a mistake. Probably for the 64 bit part. Most likely it's just the Sempron 2800+ with socket A mobo. They're not going to give away the Sempron 64 bit CPU with a 754 mobo for 70.00.

They will only be socket 754 64 bit Semprons AFAIK. 64 bit Sempron article
 
Do you need proof from CPU-Z and Everest? I can get you some screenies. I also tried a 64bit OS that worked fine on there.

ahhh. there is no such thing as a socket 939 sempron. Let alone in a laptop. Try socket 754 😛
 
You have no proof of that. I have it sitting right next to me. The configuration at HP has options for AMD Sempron 2800, 3000 and AMD64 3500+ and a few other socket 939s. I doubt they'd use a different motherboard in the same laptop.

HP recently started to offer AMD-based business desktops HP dx5150 which are equipped with ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 mainboard with integrated RADEON X300-like graphics core and are intended for AMD Athlon 64 processors with model numbers up to 4000+, which indicates 939-pin form-factor. On its web-site the company offers its clients to choose not only among AMD Athlon 64 chips, but also among AMD Sempron 3000+ and 3200+.

At this time AMD does not officially list AMD Sempron processors with 3000+ and 3200+ for Socket 939. While AMD Sempron 3000+ chip is available for Socket A and Socket 754, AMD Sempron 3200+ product is not listed anywhere at AMD web-site."
 
I've bought a couple mobo/CPU combos in the past from Fry's - all have been Socket A (aka Socket 462) boards with Sempron CPU, usually OEM CPU.
 
I pulled a HP Pavilion Sempron system apart Friday with a socket 939 sempron 3000+

CPUID couldn't even identify it, but did find x86-64 support. DUAL channel, if you were curious.
 
Lol I'm not gonna open up my laptop until the warranty is void. Also I'm assuming this is one of the 939s given to OEMs due to the fact that this has x86-64 extentions which I did verify.
