Yes but its a pain without being able to lower the multiplier.

If I am NOT an OC'er.

Between this and Harvey's post, which is a better combo and why?

Rossman, this is by far the better deal. not only are you getting a 2600+ instead of a 2400+, but you are also getting an nforce 2 motherboard rather than VIA KT333

just got back from the fountain valley store. picked up the 2600+ barton / ecs combo & 512mb pc3200 kingston for $69 AR. too bad the cpu/mobo combo is $79.99 here, but it's still a great deal. this is the only socket A ecs board I will take the trouble to install.

yes, although the 2400+ 266fsb is a 2ghz cpu, this deal is with a 1.9ghz 333fsb cpu which is better than the 2400.

Hey Rossman, does the Wilsonville Fry's have the same deals? 120GB for $60, 2600+NF2U400 $70?

What's the typical OC on this? Are people getting the Barton or the T-Bred core? The 2500+ is guaranteed to hit 3200 nowadays, but what about the 2600?

Now, any recommendations on a good fan and ram for this?

you should have picked up the 512mb pc3200 kingston while you were there ($70 AR)

for a hsf, I always like the speeze whisper rock II from egg. it's real quiet and cools a lot better than the stock hsf.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably pick that HSF up.

What's the OC capability of this combo, if used with the kingston valueram?

Um, I said it right there in the first sentence - in some places the combo is $79.99. In most it seems like it's ringing up at $69.99. Either way it's a fantastic deal.

this board is not good for OC ing ....

only adjustment on bios is FSB 166 or 200 ....

I bought the last deal with 2500+ and same board ....
Running perfectly fine for now ....

UPDATE the BIOS before installing OS!!

UPDATE the BIOS before installing OS!!

there's only 2 BIOS's for this board, mine came with the most recent. BIOS D/L page

as for OC'ing, the bios (if set on expert) allows for incremental FSB adjustments up to 233fsb.

the only slight problem with this combo, is that the 2600+ barton's default multiplyer is 11.5 (locked of course) and if you want to run at 200fsb, that would mean you would need decent cooling because you would be running at 2.3ghz (200x11.5) ......which is still good since there's no voltage adjustments on this board so no real thought of hitting the higher fsb/clocks anyway.

I have a barton 2500 on this board in my test rig and it's running fine (prime95 stable) at 200fsb 2.2ghz with some pc3200 corsair value select with the speeze whisper rock II. Idles at about 35c / load 47c
