I'm having some problems with games on my computer as of late.
I just got this new x1950gt AGP, and finally have to right drivers picked out and HAD everything running smoothly.
The current game I'm playing, Tomb Raider Anniversary, used to run flawlessly at 1280x720. I had FSAA enabled in game at 4x and was getting a constant 60fps says FRAPS.
Lately when I've been starting the game my FSAA problems are popping up. It works in increments and really bugs me. No when I start the game 4x AA enabled, my fps is down to 20 on the title screen, at 6x they drop to 15, and placing the setting at 2x puts the fps at 30. With no FSAA enabled it's at 60.
I thought the problem lied in a complication with Catalysts FSAA setting, so I check to make sure the application preference box was checked. I also tried turning FSAA off in the game and using the Catalyst Control Center to work the AA. This yields the same results, the same fps drops.
I've tried to think of everything and anything I've done that might have caused this drastic drop in performance. Last night the game was playing smoothly how I wanted it with 4x FSAA enabled. Today, crummy. I've rebooted, closed every program, basically thought of EVERYTHING, but to no avail, it seems to only work when it wants. And it's not just a problem with this game, it's ALL of my games. Tom Raider, is just the quickest to get in to and the easiest to test.
Help! I've really gotten used to anti-aliasing and I'm playing on my HDTV so the jaggedness IS noticeable!
EDIT: Here's another piece that adds to this frustration, PROVING that it only happens with this resolution! I can set the resolution to 1920x1080 and turn on 6x FSAA and get a solid 30fps from Tomb Raider. Why would this resolution produce a higher frame rate? Something has to be mucking with it somewhere.
