I ordered a 1.7 GHZ T41 from IBM. One of their standard models listed online 23739FU. I added a second 512 mb ram. What I noticed on the invoice when it arrived is that IBM did not put PC2700 memory in this notebook. The Part numbers 31P8194 for a T30 think pad (PC2100) and the other stick is part number for an A series notebook. I called and spoke to a different sales rep who found the PC2700 CL 2.5 memory parts and stated that few people would have picked up on this. Contacting my original sales rep, he stated that the PC2700 memory listed on IBM's web site is not PC 2700 and that IBM does not make PC 2700, and that the PC2100 in the T41 I received was the fastest offered by IBM. Is this true? I find it hard to believe, what I think is that I paid for faster memory and received a slower product. I also ordered a high capacity battery only to receive the standard 6 cell battery. I am very tempted to send this machine back but the screen has no dead pixels. Do you think IBM intentionally shipped these parts thinking most people wouldnt notice the difference in memory speed? This is a very different experience than my previous notebooks from Dell or Toshiba.
