See sig for system info, only change is now I have a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI

Problem(s) Summary:

Random frequent (can reproduce each within minutes in normal use) OS problems like ?Program has stopped responding? on file download prompts, My computer, IE, anything?. open process again and it works perfect.

Video corruption on the desktop, I can move through different windows or the start menu and pieces will be left behind on the screen.

Along with the above issues the following problems followed to new MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI motherboard:

Play WoW for hours quit to desktop? come back later and try to start WoW? I see gamma from game get applied and the WoW cursor appears then system locks up hard.

Hit Windows key from WoW doesn?t drop to desktop. Sometimes when I do drop and come back it comes back stuttery as hell (Why I thought MS hotfix below may resolve) then go into task mgr, then come back and it?s ok?.. subsequent drop to desktops work GREAT.

Things I?ve tried:
I ran every mem test known to man that I could find yesterday including the ones that require a boot floppy. NO ERRORS. So we can rule out the RAM.

I ran 3Dmark05 from 9pm until I woke up without a problem this should stress the video cards to the max and the second test bypasses the GPU?s and only uses the CPU power on the ?same? tests and if the CPU was bad you can be guaranteed a failure. Not a hitch. Another thing to point out is I don?t ever see any artifacts etc in video so I would think the VRAM is good.

Loaded ALL windows updates.

Reloaded Windows XP Pro multiple times on completely wiped hard drives.

MS hotfix leaked around here that fixed Opteron balancing of procs issue did nothing for me.

Any help would be appreciated!

What power supply do you have? Is there anything else attached to the vid card power connectors?

I've got a Thermaltake Purepower 680 with a dedicated power rail for the vid cards with 2 PCI-E connectors.

[Edit] Added P/S to sig.

Just one PCI card in the system (sound card)? Maybe somethings not sharing an IRQ very well. Did you try moving the sound card to a different PCI slot?

This problem was encountered on 2 seperate motherboards, A8N-SLI Delux and MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI.

Good Idea but... my second 6800GT has a NV5 Silencer on it so it covers the neighboring PCI slots. Only spot open is the last PCI slot. I will try removing the second card to make room.

One thing I haven't tried is tearing the system down to minimal components:

1 vid card
onboard sound
one optical drive
one hd

etc.

Thats always a good idea in trying to solve this kind of problem. I do have a hunch ... and this is because I read about a similar issue somewhere else. Lets pull the sound card and go to onboard sound. See if that fixes it. If it did, you've got buggy sound drivers for your PCI sound card.

Thats just a hunch ... it may still be worth going down to barebones if that doesn't solve your trouble.

EDIT: I just saw your sig. Opty 165 @ 2.7 ... Is it possible your OC is causing your trouble? Just a thought ....

I agree, I've seen it before. Also, it is a good idea to use stock cpu clocks when a problem is being troubleshot.
