Frustrating mouse problem with new laptop

For some reason the physical mouse buttons on the laptop isn't working properly. The left and right mouse button will act as if both are clicking at the same time.

E.G. clicking on anything will result in me selecting it and bringing up the context menu.

It's just the physical buttons that's doing it. If i tap on the trackpad it works just fine.

I went into the control panel\mouse and tested every setting but it still doesn't work. I removed the synaptics mouse driver in device manager and it still doesn't work.

This problem only occurs with the physical buttons on the laptop, not the trackpad. If I plug a USB mouse in, the USB mouse works perfectly.

Try a Live CD/USB (Ubuntu for instance) to see if is a driver/software problem or a hardware problem.

What brand and model of laptop? When you say "mouse," do you mean touchpad?

Make sure you have the correct driver for the touchpad mouse. Most will work by default, but if you want better controllability install the driver for that specific piece of hardware. My daughter's Dell mouse was driving me nuts (I don't like the tap pad feature... ) until I realized I had to install the Synaptic driver to gain control of it.
