frustrating media center crash

I'm unable to figure out what is causing my media center to start crashing all of a sudden. It started last weekend. Whenever I switch movies in media browser or the normal video guide, media center stops responding and then crashes and I need to restart it. Its somewhere in the switch between movies, but extremely frustrating and I haven't made any changes except a windows defender update.

Anyone else started experiencing these weird crashes?

There are definitely stability issues with Windows 7 Media Center. I've had random Nvidia related crashes with the latest drivers, times when the system claims it cannot communicate with the hard drive and crashes, though the cable is known good, the board is known good, and the hard drive is known good, and just other random crap including the type of hang described in that thread where the screen just freezes solid.

My last rule-out step is a BIOS update which I haven't done in a while, but beyond that, it's pretty much "fix Win7MC" and not "fix my bad hardware" because the hardware is good 🙁

I've had issues where my network connection would be lost for no good reason. (After running fine for 5+ months via a hardwire, not wireless).

Once I had a lockup like you experienced. These strange things happening in the past week or two have made me think twice about upgrading the other machine from Vista to 7.
