frustrating computer problems...

This problem can be one or many things... it was first noticed when my computer wouldn't remain stable for more than a day in Win98SE. So I reformatted completely and installed Win2k. Everything seemed all right until a couple days later when I got a blue screen informing me that my system was performing a memory dump and to contact an administrator. What's even weirder is that I'd have to reboot my computer multiple times for it to boot, usually it would just display nothing on the screen; the monitor would have no signal whatsoever. Occasionally it would make long beeps. Everything seems to power up ok, it just won't boot into Windows. When it finally comes up, the BIOS information seems to have been reset, the clock, fsb, etc. I tried swapping out the agp graphics card with a pci card, but it still does the same thing. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

ohhhh... it's different than a standard win95/98 one though. it's like small print in the very top of the screen. a little more informative but not much. any ideas??? i'm still at somewhat of a loss.

Kjazlaw, I see you have 512MB PC133, is that in more than one stick? If so, try swapping out sticks of RAM and see what happens. I had a similar thing happen late this spring, w/ weird BIOS post, then no-go into Windows (98 orig.), followed by weird Windows messages, and finally corruption of my Win install.

The problem ended up being a bad stick of PC133. I got it replaced by my VAR and problem went away. I might have been able to do a recovery of my registry and all would have been well, but it afforded me the opportunity I was looking for to do a format/clean install.
