Apparently the login details were right on the board so it's not really a hack and considering that he could get 12 years in prison for this (in Indonesia), you've got to admire the cajones.

When you’re stuck in gridlock traffic, you might do any of the following things: scroll through your Instagram feed, fire up a new podcast, check yourself out in the rearview mirror, bang your head on the steering wheel, or flip off the guy in front of you.

But one 24-year-old IT worker in Jakarta, Indonesia, recently decided he had a better idea for how to pass the time. He hacked into the nearest electronic billboard and streamed hardcore Japanese porn for frustrated commuters to communally watch in horror, according to The Daily Mail.

Feeling bored on his afternoon commute in the Indonesian capital, the man spotted the billboard’s log-in details displayed on the videotron, so he broadcasted 10 minutes of the porn flick Watch Tokyo Hot until the power was shut off.

What would probably just pass as a hilarious prank in America became a serious crime in uber-conservative Indonesia, where access to porn sites is blocked. Police arrested the hacker, who could face up to 12 years in jail, according to the BBC.

Well, some stuff I've seen looks more like medical training videos than porn. You look at it and you're like, wtf is that. You tilt your head a couple different ways, change your focus and finally you're like, 'ohhhhh, ok.'

The impression I got, and this is purely speculation, is that the login for the board was to access the system's memory - what you would use to upload new ads. So he just logged in and uploaded porn instead. I'd be surprised if the system had an actual net connection. It was probably just wifi or maybe just bluetooth for the purpose of data transfer.

Yeah nobody ever fucking changes the default password on those things and you can look them up in about 2 minutes, which is totally doable if traffic is stopped.

The point still stands...making everything wifi,blutooth,internet connected..etc etc sounds awesome in concept. In practice..we have a long ways to go. This is a benign example of larger problems we are going to be facing.

Still... Seems odd that you could easily upload pretty much anything without regard to size, resolution, codec, etc on something like a billboard.
