How are they? What are the big difference between say the Motorola FR50 and T250? Both utilize 14 bands/channels... both are supposedly 2 mile distance... as you can see.. not too familiar w/ da subject.

But here's what my friends and I wanted to do.. get a few, and at the beach next year, since we'll all be in separate cars, we can use them to communicate as not everyone has a cell phone. Would the FR50 be good enough for that?

I've used the 250 at Disneyworld, and the 289 at Whistler. Both were very acceptable. For this year's trip, I've got my own...the T6300. It's backward-compatible with the 250 and 289. But I don't think the FR50 is compatible with the more expensive models, since it doesn't have the 38 privacy channels. You might be better off with the FR60.

Any FRS radio with the 14 main bands will be able to talk to any others on those frequencies. (just stay off the subs).

The Family Radio Service is a standard frequency range so it really doesn't matter which model you have. Also, I think the maximum output is always the same on most models (.5watts) so again, it is just preference.

You can check out motorolas Here

This guy has some good reviews of them here

I have a set of cheap Vtechs that work fine for what I want to do (car-to-car communications, shopping at the mall, working in the yard, etc.). Paid 11 bucks a pop...didn't need to swing that Motorola hi-dollar name around...

Good Luck
