Hello all, I made this account hoping to find some help troubleshooting my computer. Except its not really a computer just a pile of parts with a nasty wiring job that makes me cry.
Anyway, I bought an MSI P31 Neo lga 775 motherboard
an intel e8400, msi 9800gt video card, an earthwatts 500 watt power supply, and 2x2gb of gskill ddr2-800 pc 6400 ram. I was on a tight, tight, tight, budget. (Corner cutting on mobo, ram, and psu-which now seems foolish in retrospect)
I wired everything correctly to the best of my knowledge, I power up the computer and it goes to this splash screen with the MSI logo, intel logo, and directions telling me to hit tab to go to POST or del to go to bios. My keyboard lights up when I power the comp, but pressing delete or tab does not work. I am not sue whether the comp is frozen or something funny is up with the keyboard (I have tried two keyboards that I know to work, one of them I typed this message on) and mobo.
I assume it passed the POST, but I am not sure why I can't get into BIOS. I was wondering if maybe the mobo couldn't detect the wolfdale, so I tried to make a bios flash boot drive using this link http://www.msicomputer.com/support/images/BIOS_FD.pdf but it says my boot folder selected doesn't contain a valid file...but thats another story for MSI customer service.
Any info on what might be wrong is great, I understand it is nearly impossible to give me a perfect diagnosis over the internet, but a general direction would be helpful. I read the sticky at the top of the page and am going over that list of possible issues.
