I ate a TJ's frozen breakfast burrito the other day. It tasted like dehydrated eggs that were rehydrated and then frozen. Zero flavor throughout the whole thing.

There's gotta be something out there that doesn't suck....right?

Bonus points if it doesn't have 700 cal 30g fat 1500mg sodium.

Yeah there aren't a lot of options in this area. :( I used to like eating the lean versions of Jimmy Deans breakfast bowls but even those suck.

I like the frozen breakfast sandwiches (either croissant or muffin, don't like biscuits). I don't recall the name though... Jimmy Dean maybe? Expensive, but good. I believe they come in a red box, and are available at Walmart, and I'm sure other stores too.

The Jimmy Dean ones are okay so long as you let them defrost first. Then you only need a light bit of micronuking to warm them up. If you do it from frozen you usually end up with scolding hot edges and a frozen inner core and chewy bread. Bleh.

Defrosted first is the key there.

+1

although, if I don't have time to cook breakfast and I need something more portable than a bowl of cereal, I'm usually more inclined at that point to just grab some greek yogurt.

Honestly, if you're not making it, your best bet is McDonalds for an egg mcmuffin. As a bonus, it's 300 calories and not terrible for you - its the only thing on the menu where the "egg" is a real egg and not some mixture from a carton.

I need another alternative besides that - I've eaten more sausage egg mcmuffins in the past year than I'm proud to admit.

Yep, the sausage/egg/cheese croissants are really good and HUGE. The key with any of these is to defrost in the fridge first, they never turn out well straight from the freezer.

have you guys never read the instructions?

they specifically say to defrost in the microwave for 1min 30s

then nuke for a minute.

if you do that, they come out just fine.

probably doesn't meet your nutrition requirements, but I love TJ's frozen hashbrown patties. It's....$2 for like 12 of them. :D

They are exactly what you would get for fast food breakfast items, so I guess I have a special place in my heart for them. I love frying them up in some conola, patting dry, and tossing an egg over-easy on top. yum.

I actually have them in my freezer right now. Use them to make ghetto breakfast burritos at home (scrambled eggs + TJ bacon + TJ hash brown + cheese = win)

They're also great with chili - we make chili cheese hashbrowns.

The sausage version is considerably worse for you :)

Frozen breakfast options are pretty bad. Go buy 6 croissants, a bag of decent shredded cheddar, some eggs and bacon. Cook the eggs and bacon how you like them, make 6 sandwiches, and freeze. Breakfast for a week.

The microwave is the real culprit in these things tasting like ass. If you can avoid that - maybe defrost the night before and just microwave long enough to heat, or use the oven - put them on a sheet pan in a cold oven, set to 400, and kill the oven as soon as it's done preheating. Let the sandwich sit in there for a little bit.

They also say "results best if defrosted in refridgerator". Any of these sandwiches, burgers, etc all taste much better if you defrost in the fridge.

Microwave defrost is still "burnt on outside, frozen in the middle".

Make breakfast burritos and freeze seems to be a popular option. I'll check this out next time, gotta put the foodsaver to use.
